Avenged Sevenfold talk to God, play festivals

June 6th, 2008 by The Editor

Avenged SevenfoldDid I miss the meeting where Avenged Sevenfold announced their conversion to evangelical Christianity? OK, so maybe no, and they’ve never been the blackest of Satanic metal outfits either, but there’s a definite biblical tone to a lot of their new song titles - their forthcoming single is titled “Dear God”, for instance.

Statistical blip, you say? Well, the B-side is called “A Little Piece Of Heaven”, and the CD version will also include a version of established live favourite “Afterlife”. Then again, Avenged Sevenfold’s bass player is known as Johnny Christ, and a good Christian shouldn’t take the Lord’s name in vain, or so they tell me. Maybe it’s all an elaborate double bluff?

Well, I don’t know. What I do know is that Avenged Sevenfold will release “Dear God” on 7th July - two days after their Twickenham gig supporting original metal legends Iron Maiden - and then make two appearances at the Reading’n'Leeds Festival(s). So why not head along, and see if they hand palm fronds out to the front row, or pass around a plate for donations toward a new lead roof and the priest’s legal defence fund?

In the meantime, MySpace means free music, whereas the Avenged Sevenfold website probably has a similar amount of information in a format that won’t make your eyes bleed after taking two minutes to load. Bam!
