If we were to make a list of bands whose popularity baffles me, Funeral For A Friend would be right near the top. I mean, there’s far worse bands than Funeral For A Friend, but none of them consistently shift records and tour tickets in the same sort of scale.
I guess we’ll finally get to find out how much of their success was down to the magic of major label marketing, though - Funeral For A Friend have turned their backs on their previous benefactors and started their own label, Join Us Records, the first release from which will be the new single “Waterfront Dance Club”, out as a free download on 14th July.
Naturally, there’s some tour dates in the offing as well. You can catch Funeral For A Friend live at the following venues:
- 28th June - Woodstock, WAKESTOCK FESTIVAL
- 30th June - Manchester, Academy 3
- 1st July - Glasgow, King Tut’s
- 2nd July - London, Kings College
- 4th July - Newport, TJ’s
- 5th July - Abersoch, WAKESTOCK FESTIVAL
- 6th July - Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, ZOO THOUSAND & EIGHT FESTIVAL
A festival in a zoo? The punchlines write themselves sometimes … I guess I’d rather watch Funeral For A Friend than watch hippos in mud, but it’s a close call, to be honest. Your mileage (of course) may vary.
While you’re waiting for “Waterfront Dance Club” to arrive, there’s always free tunes at the internet eyesore of MySpazz, and there’s a grown-up’s Funeral For A Friend website too.
