If your idea of fun is a weekend in a slightly seedy holiday camp in North Wales getting blind drunk and listening to rock and heavy metal bands, then you should probably make a space in your calendar for the end of the year - the second incarnation of Hard Rock Hell descends on Pontins, Prestatyn Sands from 5th to 7th December.
And what a selection of bands will be in attendance! Granted, some of them hold little appeal for me (Tigertails, WTF?), but Hard Rock Hell seems to have covered a lot of bases and got some sturdy riff-masters onto the bill. Here’s a handful that I know I’d be making time for:
- Thin Lizzy
- Ghost of a Thousand
- Cancer Bats
- Big Linda
- Pilgrim Fathers
- Hawkwind (fuck, yes!)
- Orange Goblin
- Clutch
- Black Label Society
- Wildhearts
Not a bad selection for a weekend, is it?
And the best thing about these holiday-camp festivals, in case you’ve never been to one before, is that you don’t have to sleep in a tent pitched in a muddy field. Instead, you can spend a couple of days milling around on the set of the most surreal (and, sadly, non-existent) episode of Hi-de Hi! ever, drinking Jägermeister and blathering rubbish at people you hardly know… in fact, the more I think about it, the more appealing Hard Rock Hell gets. Except the journey there, that is; I hate public transport.
Anyway, you can find the full line-up at the somewhat cheesy (and annoyingly Flash-based) Hard Rock Hell website. Maybe see you there?
