There’ll be Howlin’ Rain around the British Isles in the first half of May this year. Not just the sort of shitty weather that, as a nation, we are somewhat accustomed to, but also the band of the same name. Yup - Howlin’ Rain are touring.
It’s much to do with the release of Howlin’ Rain’s second album, Magnificent Fiend, which hits the shelves and screens of music stores everywhere on 28th April - and which will be getting a review here at The Dreaded Press pretty soon.
But are Howlin’ Rain any good? Well, I’ve not seen them play as of yet, but they have one notable fan in the form of a guy you may have heard of - a certain Mr Rick Rubin, who has volunteered to work on the next album after Magnificent Fiend.
Rick Rubin has a knack for spotting good bands, so I think we can assume there’s something worth hearing about Howlin’ Rain. You can find out for yourself if you’re in the vicinity of one of these venues:
- 1st May - Belfast, Auntie Annies
- 2nd May - Dublin, Tower Records (IN STORE 2PM - Ethan and Joel to play acoustic set)
- 2nd May - Dublin, Whelans
- 3rd May - Cork, Myrtleville, Pine Lodge
- 4th May - Manchester, Salford Kings Arms (Sounds from the other City Festival)
- 5th May - Birmingham, Factory Club, Custard Factory
- 6th May - London, Luminaire (with Monotonix)
- 7th May - Falmouth, Miss Peapod’s
- 8th May - Cardiff, Clwb Ifor Bach
- 9th May - Camber Sands, ATP vs Pitchfork Festival
- 11th May - Bristol, The Croft
- 12th May - London, Scala (with Wooden Shjips and Meat Puppets)
In the meantime, the Howlin’ Rain website has been done up to look real pretty and professional, and of course you can sample some tunes over at MySpace.
