Ida Maria is a young singer-songwriter from Norway who grew up in a remote town near the Arctic Circle with a population of under two thousand people. Unsurprisingly, she’s a bit eccentric.
Eccentric she may be, but Ida Maria writes (and sings) some fine tunes - the sort of brash, hedonistic and jangly punk’n'roll that makes the pointy-shoed Camden brigade look like the ineffectual poseurs they are.
Oh, you don’t believe me? Fair enough - here’s the proof, as Ida Maria performs “Queen Of The World” on Later With Jools Holland:
Try and tell me that didn’t at least bring a smile to your face. That’s indie guitar-pop done properly, I reckon - and she’s a beautiful girl, to boot.
Ida Maria releases her new single “Stella” on 10th March, and there’s an album to follow in the summertime. In the meantime, why not go friend her on MySpace, eh?
