You’ve heard of that Jay Reatard guy, right? No doubt about it, he’s got a name to remember - and a growing reputation as a solo artist to go with it. Former frontman of The Reatards and Lost Sounds, Jay has been doing the lone auteur thing for a couple of years now, touring with a backing band and releasing hyperlimited seven-inch platters of his raucous noisy garage shoegaze’n'roll.
And you probably don’t own any of them. I sure don’t - though I may have, ah, I may have heard some of the tracks. Y’know, on the radio, or something. Yeah, that’s it. I heard Jay Reatard on the radio … but it was not enough! Lucky for me (and for you too) that he’s releasing Singles 06-07 on 28th July 2008, then - a tidy collection of all those singles, remastered and wrapped up in one neat package. Bam!
You want a tracklisting? No problemo:
- 1. Night Of Broken Glass
- 2. Another Person
- 3. All Over Again
- 4. Feeling Blank Again
- 5. I Know A Place
- 6. Don’t Let Him Come Back
- 7. Hammer I Miss You
- 8. It’s So Useless
- 9. All Wasted
- 10. In The Dark
- 11. Searching For You
- 12. Haunting You
- 13. Let It All Go
- 14. Blood Visions
- 15. Turning Blue
- 16. It’s So Easy
- 17. Oh It’s Such A Shame
There ya go. The CD version of Singles 06-07 comes with an extra DVD featuring footage of Jay Reatard in action on stage with his backing band The Boston Chinks, too.
I doubt the nice people who send out these things will be sending me the DVD, but there’s a copy of Singles 06-07 on its way to The Dreaded Press and there’ll be a review as soon as I’m able to sort one out. Until then check out Jay Reatard on MySpace and stay cool, or something like that. Yeah.
