Longwave on tour; play three UK dates in May

May 2nd, 2008 by The Editor

LongwaveNew York’s Longwave - arguably the band that least deserved to be eclipsed by The Strokes - make a return to UK shores this month for three short dates, ahead of a new as-yet untitled album to be released this summer.

The new album was begun in the face of what might have been the end of the band; finding themselves label-less, Longwave reportedly kept rehearsing until they got some material that really worked, and then badgered their publisher to give them time to record it and release it independently.

The new Longwave album was completed in February, and you can hear some of the nucleus tracks on their MySpace page. You might also catch them at one of these brief shows - though, as ever, it would appear that there are no venues worth playing south of London, because we’re all hopeless yokels with no appreciation of decent music down here on the coast, after all:

  • 8th May - Barfly, Glasgow
  • 9th May - Dry Bar, Manchester
  • 10th May - Camden Barfly, London

The rest of you will have to get your Longwave fix from the teaser tunes on MySpace … but there is some YouTube footage of the band in the studio:

And as if that wasn’t enough, there’s a proper Longwave website for grown-ups, too. In the meantime, The Dreaded Press will try to get hold of that album for a review.
