If you’re in need of something bright and cheery to distract you from the unseasonal weather, maybe Norway’s Lukestar can help. Their brand of shiny post-rock pop has a sort of fresh-air vibe about it that should make you feel a little less grumpy that its so damned chilly outside. Think Sigur Ròs meets nineties alt-rock, and you’re in the right neck of the woods.
Having already received strong airplay on Norwegian radio for last year’s single “White Shade”, Lukestar have been working on their sophomore album Lake Toba, named after an ancient Sumatran volcano whose eruption may have changed the course of human evolution… an ambitious title, don’t you think?
Lake Toba gets released on 22nd September this year, and The Dreaded Press will be doing its best to get a copy for review. Apparently there’ll be a UK tour later in the year as well, but if you’re wanting to get a feel for Lukestar’s sound, here’s the video for “White Shade”, which reminds me that I’ve not been for a walk in the countryside for far too long:
Good stuff! There’s not much to see on the band’s website apart from the Lake Toba cover art and a list of tour dates, but as always there’s free music and other gubbins at Lukestar’s MySpace, so go check ‘em out.
