Nottingham’s Nephu Huzzband seem to release singles every thirty to forty seconds, I swear, but I’m hardly going to complain; they’re usually over in a jiffy and pretty fine while they’re playing.
“No Not Ever” is a bit of a surprise from this normally angular, tightly-reigned foursome, being a barely-minute-long distorted fuzzy-punk stumble round a shouted verse or two and a single chorus before it kicks the back door open and falls out back onto the streets. As such it’s pretty ace, shorn of all but what would be a catchy hook were it to hang around long enough to get caught, but doesn’t give much of a clue as to what Nephu Huzzband are all about (find the bloody excellent “Nurse”! Nurse!” for that, I’d suggest).
If the press and radio have their way they’ll be at least semi-enorm by Christmas anyway, so I’m hoping Nephu Huzzband squeeze out an album somewhere close to what they’re clearly capable of before the cocaine and management (not usually in that order) get to them.
