Radio-friendly alt-rock outfit Story Of The Year will release the single “Wake Up” on 19th May. The first track taken from their recently released album The Black Swan, “Wake Up” takes lyrical inspiration from the late pop-astronomer Carl Sagan.
Says Story Of The Year frontman Dan Marsala:
“When you think about just how small the earth really is and just how small the human race really is, our existence is almost insignificant in the greater scheme of things. You think of how the wars and all of the fighting and killing are just so unnecessary. It’s pointless, and we should all be living our lives to the fullest.”
I can’t disagree with that … though personally I’d disagree that “Wake Up” is the best track on The Black Swan, as I mentioned in my review of the album.
That’s not to say it’s a bad tune, though - as radio-friendly rock goes, you could do far worse than “Wake Up”. Here’s the video for the track, which shows Story Of the Year getting all guerilla-viral-marketing with some spraypaint in a warehouse:
If that’s whetted your appetite for more Story Of the Year, you can catch them on tour at the following venues:
- 20th May - London, Mean Fiddler
- 21st May - Birmingham, Academy 2
- 22nd May - Manchester, Academy 2
- 23rd May - Glasgow, QMU
- 25th May - Leeds, Slam-dunk Festival
More details and funky stuff can be found at the Story Of The Year website, and there’s free tunes on the MySpace, natch.
