Veteran crusty stalwarts The Levellers are doing their customary customary of festival shows this summer, as well as giving away a new single at the beginning of June.
The provocatively-titled “Burn, America, Burn” single will be available as a free download from the website for the forthcoming Letters From The Underground album and - in the words of be-dreadlocked Levellers bass player Jeremy - it’s about “the self-destruction of the country”.
That probably won’t stop the usual suspects accusing them of anti-Americanism, but there you go - say what you like about their careers, The Levellers have rarely pulled their political punches in their lyrics.
If you’re going to a major festival this summer, your odds of catching The Levellers live are pretty high - and I’d recommend it, because whatever you may think of their politics they’re an awesome live band. Here are your opportunities:
24 May - Perth Festival
26 June - Glastonbury Festival The Left Field Stage
04 July - Guilfest
12 July - Arley Hall Northwich
17 July - Larmer Tree Festival
01 August - Cambridge Folk Festival
03 August - Stokes Bay Festival
08 August - Cropredy Festival
09 August - Harewood House Yorkshire
15 August - Beautiful Days Festival
22 August - Arundel Castle
30 August - Connect Festival
12 September - Bowood House
17 October - Musicport Festival
You’ll be able to download “Burn, America, Burn” from 2nd June; in the meantime there’s free music and substantial other gubbins at The Levellers’ website and the obligatory MySpace.
