Here’s some great news for fans of the psychedelic end of rock music - Californian drone-rock maestros The Warlocks are touring the UK in the latter half of August.
The Warlocks are connected by history, ex-personnel and sonic template to The Brian Jonestown Massacre, though they’re a more musical outfit than Anton Newcombe’s band of gypsies. Most notably, The Warlocks have two drummers which - as I can attest from personal experience - makes for an astonishing noise when they play live.
Regrettably I’m not going to be able to make any of these shows, but I heartily recommend you go and have your brain spun round by The Warlocks on one of the following dates:
- 15th August - Manchester, Roadhouse
- 16th August - York, The Duchess
- 17th August - Aberdeen, Moshulu
- 18th August - Glasgow, Barfly
- 19th August - Newcastle, Academy 2
- 20th August - Liverpool, Academy 2
- 22nd August - Cardiff, Clwb Ifor Bach
- 24th August - Sheffield, The Dream Machine
- 25th August - Cambridge, Barfly
- 26th August - Birmingham, Academy 2
- 27th August - Bristol, Academy 2
- 28th August - Oxford, Zodiac
- 29th August - London, Islington Bar Academy
- 30th August - Brighton, Engine Room
Book your tickets right away! In the meantime, you can catch some waves of amped-up sixties psych on MySpace, and find out a little more about The Warlocks on their proper website.
