On the surface of it, I should loathe Tonight Is Goodbye: cookie-cutter emo band name, haircuts by Toni&Guy on an acid binge, indie-flavoured pop-punk tunes. But as my review of their mini-album Castles should have made clear, there’s something insanely good about them.
I guess it’s like super-sugary energy drinks; they taste great and make you feel good, but looking at that ingredients list can be pretty frightening if you start thinking about it. So best not to think for a change… after all, we’re approaching the weekend. So switch off your brain for four minutes and watch the video for “Brain” by Tonight Is Goodbye:
See what I mean? It transcends the form, somehow. The rest of the tracks on Castles are pretty good, too - Tonight Is Goodbye are way smarter than most of the cardigan-covered Camden crap that you see on MTV2 all the time, that’s for sure. And hey - anyone else reckon the singer looks a bit like a Gish-era Billy Corgan without the frightening patterned jumpers?
Anyway, they don’t seem to have a grown-up’s website yet, but you can check out some more tunes on ’s MySpazz page. If there’s any justice in the world of pop, we’ll be hearing more from these guys pretty soon.
